Ms. Lauryn Hill, as she is now known, made two Miami appearances in two days. The first as the headliner at the Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival and the other at Grand Central Miami the next night. She kept the same setlist, changed her outfit, and Doo Wop-ed me back to 1998.

The New York Dolls show at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale was exactly like watching a bunch of old men shaking their shit. But at least David Johansen kept his shirt on, unlike a certain Rolling Stones frontman who thinks stripping at sixty is sexy. Eww.

Last week while Lisa was in Miami we took a day trip to the keys. We drove all the way to Marathon stopping breifly at Islamorada on the way back for seafood and a homemade keylime pie.

This past Saturday I spent a good part of the morning setting up for a photo shoot that lasted about 2 hours. The whole thing was my gift to Jonathan and Palouma for their baby shower. I'm nowhere near calling myself a photographer ... But sometimes I wonder if I would be happier taking photos instead of setting type. I can't believe I haven't posted anything since the beginning of 2009. The whole month wasn't a complete waste. Sean and I got to check out Salvador Dali's "The Divine Comedy" at Freedom Tower. It was a collection of water colors completed between 1951 and 1954 for the Italian Government in honor Dante's 700th birthday.

Hello, Goodbye

These are the last photos I took in 2008. They're my goodbye to a strange year full of changes.

Not only did Sean and I move to Miami but Lisa moved to Austin, Monica to Ottawa and Mahsa to Iran.

Ali only moved to Newmarket but he also got engaged so it's worth a mention ... As is Teresa's new job, new car and new haircut.

For the next dozen months, I hope launch subcultmag.com and file reports from outside North America ... Fingers crossed.

It was impossible to make all the Art Basel/Design Miami events we wanted to attend. But since there was a free show in the Design District, we decided to go early and see what we were missing.

The Kill Your Idols exhibit featured photos by Eileen Polk, old flyers, free concerts and free beer ... No competition.

We missed the Matt and Kim show on Thursday but caught Brutal Knights the next night. It was all the drink-throwing/pole-humping goodness you expect from a band that describes their sound as "Scummy Punk Noise."

End of a Montreal Sandwich Story

Today, a photo from the lost archives. This was taken at Schwartz's Deli in Montreal. People seriously wait outside for hours to get a sandwich. (BTW it's definitely worth it.) We were supposed to be there for Osheaga ... But really it was our corn beef & beer picnic in the park that made the trip.
